Developed together, continuously evolving: NIS combines open geospatial information with practical digital administration
The Nature Information System (NIS) is a long-standing, ongoing collaborative project that I develop and continuously advance together with my partners Martin Höpke and Markus Scheidt. Our goal is to create a powerful yet practical open-source solution for the digital management and maintenance of natural areas and tourist regions.
Based on QGIS, NIS combines the collection, management, maintenance, and analysis of hiking and cycling trails, infrastructure, trail signage, maintenance areas, and trail stewardships with modern map visualization and data provision.
My role focuses particularly on technology and architecture. I contribute to the technical development of NIS and work together with my partners to further develop the platform so that it can meet future requirements and accommodate a growing range of applications. Practical experience and the needs of our users are continuously incorporated into the ongoing development.
NIS therefore represents a sustainable, flexible, and future-proof geospatial data solution that combines open standards and full data sovereignty with a comprehensive range of functions. Close collaboration with Martin Höpke and Markus Scheidt is an essential part of the project, making NIS a system that evolves with the needs of its users over many years.
